Modern Grammar

This new academic discipline included medieval texts, but especially classical literature, including both Latin and Greek texts, as well as history, rhetoric, dialectic, natural philosophy, arithmetic, and modern languages. [5] The use of pagan authors became more common as ecclesiastical institutions became less involved in the humanistic method used in pre-university academic institutions. 19] Erasmus’ Colloquies (1518), a book containing dialogues aimed at the study of Latin grammar, became one of the most widely read books of its time. Similar were the dialogues of the Exercitatio linguae latinae by Luis Vives.[20] The students of the Studia Humanista, the Studia Humanistica, were also very interested in the study of Latin grammar.

The students of the Studia Humanista were seen as capable of both political and business occupations. Learning the classics and the other subjects in this curriculum enabled the student to speak, argue, and write with eloquence and relevance.[21] The Studia Humanista was also seen as a way for students to learn to speak, argue, and write eloquently and relevantly.

History of grammar

To enter those schools where the secondary education promotion exam (maturita) is presented, prospective students must pass a Mathematics and Czech Language exam organized by the government agency CERMAT (required for the first time for students finishing elementary school in 2017). Each school may require further entrance exams.
