I want to go someplace where I can wake up.
Humphrey Bogart (New York, January 23, 1899 – Los Angeles, January 14, 1957) was an American actor who made a career in Hollywood for his his histrionic strength, although of little physical attractiveness and an accident in his upper lip that left him paralyzed, led him to a peculiar way of speaking, being at the height of the best of the time.
His father DeForest Bogart was an important surgeon and his mother Maud was a well-known magazine illustrator. At first his parents’ wish was for him to study medicine, but his bad behavior at school led to his expulsion from Phillips Academy and his entry into the U.S. Navy.
While fighting in World War I, Bogart suffered an accident on a ship, which left his upper lip paralyzed, turning this physical defect into a significant speech impediment.
The film was to become one of its star’s most acclaimed works, an acclaim confirmed by his starring role in John Huston’s directorial debut, “The Maltese Falcon” (1941), a film in which Bogart splendidly played the detective Sam Spade.

Discover with Juan, his sister Maria and cousin July, why it takes perseverance, knowledge and innovation to feed the Money Tree, and the importance of enjoying its fruits with family and friends.
He was the eldest of the three children of a marriage formed by the surgeon Belmont DeForest Bogart (1867-1934), of Anglo-Dutch origins (the surname Bogart comes from the Dutch Bogaert) and the graphic artist Maud Humphrey (1868-1940), trained in Paris with the impressionist painter Whistler, graphic director of the fashion magazine The Delineator and militant suffragette; as an illustrator she was highly reputed and earned more than twice as much as her husband. Both parents were cold, detached and formal with Humphrey and his two sisters, although they loved them in their own way. He inherited from his father a tendency to criticize, a fondness for fishing, a lifelong love of sailing, and an attraction to strong-willed women.
Humphrey’s life changed when, at boarding school at Philips Academy (Massachusetts), he met his friend William Brady, son of theater producer William A. Brady, who encouraged him to become a stage actor. Perhaps because of this he began to not fit in at the Academy and was expelled for somewhat obscure reasons, although all related to his detachment from the destiny that had been outlined for him.
